With appreciation of the great outdoors at an all-time high and national park capacities maxing out daily, interest in local and regional splendors continues to climb. Waterfalls pack many a road trip itinerary but many don’t take much time or effort to reach, leaving the rest of a vacation schedule wide open. To fill in the gaps surrounding misty rainbow views, the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild commissioned artist Victoria Buchkova to illustrate a double-sided map of the state’s 85 best waterfalls for road trippers, including 29 neighboring bed and breakfasts for cozy overnights and eight bonus lists of themed adventures ranging from locavore foodie loops to Native American heritage sites. The 24” x 18” foldable map isn’t just a useful tool for the car ride, but serves as a keepsake work of art commemorating your unforgettable journey across the Beaver State and, best of all, it’s free. To snag your copy, fill out the simple request form here; this is a limited edition run, but the digital map will always be available. The 29 participating B&Bs on The Oregon Tail of Waterfalls are all members of the Oregon Bed and Breakfast Guild, which means each is additionally inspected by the guild for cleanliness, sanitation, insurance and licensing in order to maintain membership. All properties on the map offer just 9 or fewer rooms to keep individualized service at the highest level and minimize exposure to large groups for those continuing to take added precautions against the waning pandemic. The map plots B&Bs graphically in relation to waterfalls on the front with contact info for each on the reverse, alphabetically, but handy lists of B&Bs by city and by region are available online here. To get a more detailed sense of what’s available at these charming inns and bed and breakfasts, a clickable list of all properties is provided below.
Whether you’re an avid cyclist or an enthusiastic oenophile, The Oregon Trail of Waterfalls offers plenty of suggestions for themed itineraries and highlights bed and breakfasts in close proximity to your preferred pastimes. On the map’s reverse you’ll find illustrated lists of B&Bs offering bike-friendly lodging for those hoping to take advantage of the country’s only designated scenic bikeway, B&Bs along instaworthy scenic drives, B&Bs near famous film locations (The Goonies, Wild, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, etc.) and, of course, plenty of B&Bs near the 700+ wineries of the state’s famed Willamette Valley. There’s also tons of info for foodies and history buffs, plus an Oregon bucket list for ticking off your accomplishments and discoveries along the way.
